If you’re anything like me, you might be feeling just a little bit hopeless about this current administration and the damage they are doing to our way of life and the values that we hold dear as Americans. Maybe you marched with us on January 21st. Maybe you voted. But what else is there?
Calling is obviously a great way to get in touch with them as well, but so many people are calling (thanks to guides like Indivisible and Emily Ellsworth‘s Call the Halls) that lines are often busy and voicemails can’t be listened to. Emails can go untouched and social media can be considered a form of slacktivism (however much I hate that word).
Writing your representatives is a great way to make your voice heard, and postcards are the way to go. Short, less expensive to mail, and they won’t be caught in letter purgatory in which envelopes are quarantined to make sure you aren’t trying to kill your Senator with anthrax (or whatever the hip poison of choice is these days).
I created a simple, yet powerful, postcard that you can print and mail to your representatives with a few short sentences. Not sure what to write? Here are a few ideas:
- Thank them for representing their constituents and the values that they hold!
- Let them know that you are against Trump’s political appointees and advisers (Bannon, DeVos, etc.)
- Reaffirm your position on things like LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, Trump’s travel ban, etc.
- And if it’s really bad in your area, let them know that you won’t be voting for them when the next election comes around.
